Artist in Hilversum and Grächen
Hilversum is not the place where I was born, but it is a place where I feel at home. As a person and as an artist.
Perhaps it has to do with the green character of the town. Hilversum is known as a media city, but it is also a garden town with many remarkable trees. Over the years, I have become increasingly aware of them. From my home I look out onto a giant copper beech, almost like a neighbour. At times it feels as if I live in a tree house.
My studio is now located on the other side of Hilversum, in the Bloemenbuurt. I also work regularly in Switzerland, more precisely in Grächen, in the Valais region. Both places influence my work: Hilversum with its trees and green surroundings, Grächen with its mountains, light and sense of space.
This is where I work on paintings, drawings and sculptures in which looking, feeling and imagination come together.
Crealism
Still, I see myself perhaps more as a crealist than as an artist. My work is not only about seeing, but above all about being. About attention. About the way reality changes when you look at it differently. Through my work, I want to shift perception: to invite people to look again at something they thought they already knew.
Many people know me mainly through my paintings and drawings from the series Trees and Their Stories. In these works, trees are not merely a subject or a background. They are a living presence. They carry stories, memories and energy.
In Hilversum, some people also know me from the drawing I made of the buildings designed by Dudok, which can be found throughout the media city. Others may remember the series I made in response to the MH17 disaster, or the exhibition World Leaders at the Town Hall.
As a member of Art Hilversum, I take part in group exhibitions when time allows. But the essence remains the work itself: to keep looking, to keep creating, and to keep searching for what something can become.
